Day 4 - Second Stage Web.com

Friday was the last round for Second Stage Web.com qualifying.  It was windy and rainy all day.  Tim shot an 82 for the last day, missing the cut.  It's a bummer that he didn't make it through to final stage, but I am very proud of him getting this far and of his determination that he plays with everyday.  We'll be looking at his schedule for next year and will keep you updated!

Day 1 - Pre-Qualifying for Web.com Tour

For those not that familiar with golf, here's a quick explanation of what "Q-School" or Qualifying School is for the Web.com Tour.

Qualifying school consists of 4 stages:

  1. Pre-Quaifying - Total of 5 tournaments held across the US.  Three rounds of golf are played with roughly 45 players moving on from each event to 1st stage.
  2. 1st Stage - Total of 13 tournaments held that include the pre-qualified golfers and any players exempt from pre-qualifiying.  Four rounds of golf are played and roughly the top 25 players from each event move on to 2nd stage.
  3. 2nd Stage - Total of 6 tournaments held that include those who qualified from 1st stage and any players exempt from 1st stage.  Four rounds of golf are played and roughly top 20 players from each event move on to final stage.
  4. Final Stage - One tournament that includes those who qualified from 2nd stage and any players exempt from 2nd stage.  Six rounds of golf are played.  The top 25 players earn a card on the Web.com tour for the next year.  Web.com is the tour below the PGA tour and players can earn their way up to the PGA tour this way.

Today was Tim's first round for pre-qualifying.  He shot a 76 and he has two more rounds left this week.  Click here to follow Tim's score on the leaderboard.

Arizona Open

This week Tim played in the Arizona Open held at Troon Country Club in Scottsdale, AZ.  The monsoon weather gave the 144 players slightly cooler temps with highs in the 90's.  That's pretty nice this time of year for AZ weather.  The first day of the event Tim played in the afternoon shooting a 79.  On Friday he was able to play a better round shooting 71.  He missed the cut for Saturday by 2 strokes.

His next event with be on September 18-20th, the Pre-qualifier for Web.com Q-School at PGA West - Greg Norman Course in LaQuinta, CA.

Resolve never to quit, never to give up, no matter the situation. - Jack Nicklaus.

Prequalifier for PGA Tour FedEx St. Jude Classic

Scattered rain visited Memphis this week. The Windyke Country Club golf course was very wet for the start of Friday's prequalifier event. It is a large tree lined golf course with straight and narrow fairways. Heavy storms visited during the event while Tim was on the 14th hole and the horns sounded for a rain delay. Tim was able to get back on the course to finish his round scoring 71. Some players will be finishing their round on Saturday to determine final placement.  The top 40 players will move on to Sunday's qualifier for the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Current Leaderboard

We've added a few more dates to the schedule on the blog and this weekend Tim will be playing in a Dream Chasers Tour event at Whirlwind Golf Club.

Tim's also joined the Twitter world.  Follow him @timmybgolfshot and hear what he has to tweet!

The next few weeks Tim will be practicing at Alta Mesa golf club and working with his golf instructor Tim Mahoney.  He will be preparing himself for his next event, the US Open Local Qualifier on May 14th (which just also happens to be his birthday) :)

PGA Tour Canada Qualifying School

Tim was on the waiting list for the PGA Tour Canada qualifying school but received a call two days before the Oak Valley, CA event.  So he took the opportunity and went to CA for the week.  It was four rounds, top 40 players get status on PGA Tour Canada.  He showed significant improvement from last year and missed getting status by one shot.  He's thinking positive and will be working on his game until the next tournament.

I just think I need to travel with him to the next tournament so he doesn't have to miss me so much!
